roofing services in Newcastle NSW

Restoration, repairs, new roofs and replacements, metal roofing, cleaning, painting, gutters, flashings, skylights, inspections and the harder heritage, steep and light commercial jobs. One inspection, one itemised quote.

Why the same job is specified differently across Newcastle

The area we cover runs from surf beaches and a working harbour to lakeside suburbs and inland valley towns, and roofs wear differently across it. On homes exposed to salt spray, the first things to go are usually fixings, flashings and the cut edges of steel, so we look closely at those and match metal grades and fasteners to how exposed the site is. Around the lake and in leafy, bushland streets, leaf litter in gutters and valleys is the more common cause of overflow and leaks. Inland, the concern shifts toward heat, older materials and, on some properties, bushfire planning.

The housing mix matters as much as the weather. Victorian and Federation terraces in the older inner suburbs often carry corrugated iron, slate or terracotta, and some sit in heritage conservation areas where materials and profiles need care. Post-war brick veneer suburbs are full of concrete and terracotta tile roofs now at the age where ridge mortar lets go and coatings fade. Newer estates are mostly Colorbond. None of that tells us what your roof needs, but it tells us what to look for first.

Restore, repair or replace? How we make the call

The honest answer depends on what we find on site, which is why we inspect before we quote. This is the framework we use:

 🧽 Restoration🔧 Repairs🏠 Replacement
Right whenTiles or sheets are sound, but the surface, ridges and fixings are worn across the roofThe roof is sound apart from one problem: a leak, cracked tiles, a lifted sheet or a failed flashingMetal is rusted through, tiles are failing widely, or battens and sarking have given out
Typical scopeClean, replace broken tiles or worn screws, rebed and repoint ridges (tile), treat rust (metal), prime and coatTrace the water, then replace or refix the damaged tiles, sheets, flashing or sealStrip the old roof, check the frame and battens, lay sarking, install new metal or tile with new flashings
You getA watertight, refreshed roof with years added to its life*The fault fixed, with photos, and an honest note on anything else we sawA new roof and a clean start, including a change of material if you want one
Relative cost$$ (a fraction of replacement)$ (the cheapest time to fix a problem is early)$$$ (the right call when restoration would be money wasted)

*Only where the tiles or sheets underneath are still sound. Every job is priced as a written quote after inspection, not a guess over the phone.

Terraces, brick veneer or coastal: we work on all of it

Newcastle's housing spans more than a century, and each type of roof wears out, and gets fixed, in its own way. (Illustrations are AI generated, not photos of our jobs.)

Victorian and Federation terraces

Common in the older inner suburbs. Corrugated iron, slate or terracotta, often with party walls, parapets and chimneys that need careful flashing. Where a home is in a heritage conservation area, the owner checks with council before changing materials; we match profiles and details to the original.

Post-war brick veneer

Concrete or terracotta tiles on a timber frame, many now old enough that ridge mortar has cracked, coatings have faded and a few tiles have slipped. When the tiles themselves are sound, these roofs are usually good candidates for restoration rather than replacement.

Coastal and newer metal roofs

Colorbond is the default on newer homes and many beachside rebuilds. Close to the surf, salt works on fixings, laps and cut edges first. We check those closely and follow the steel manufacturer's guidance on grade for the site's distance from the coast.

Choosing a service: common questions

The questions we get before a job is even scoped. For service-specific detail, each service page has its own FAQs, or see the full FAQ page.

Is roof painting the same as roof restoration?

No. Painting is the coating stage only. A restoration also covers cleaning, replacing broken tiles or worn fixings, and rebedding and repointing ridge capping on tile roofs before the coating goes on. Painting on its own suits a roof that is already sound; paint over failing mortar or rusted fixings just hides the problem for a while.

What is the difference between a new roof and a roof replacement?

A new roof goes on a new build, extension or addition, onto a fresh frame. A replacement removes an existing roof from a lived-in home and puts a new one on, which adds removal, disposal, checking the battens and frame, and often new sarking. The two are priced and planned differently.

Can you tell me which service I need over the phone?

Sometimes we can narrow it down, but a leak stain or a photo from the ground rarely shows the cause. Free on-site inspection lets us check the tiles or sheets, ridges, flashings, valleys and gutters and give you a straight answer with photos.

Do you work on commercial roofs?

We take on light commercial roof work, such as shops, offices and small industrial buildings, along with commercial roof inspection reports. Larger or complex commercial projects we assess case by case.

I have several problems. Do I need separate quotes?

No. One inspection covers the whole roof, gutters and flashings, and the quote lists each item separately. That way you can see what is urgent, what can wait, and what each part costs.

Not sure where to start? We'll look first.

Free on-site inspection, then a written quote.
