Storm Damage Roof Repairs Newcastle
Wind, hail and heavy rain find the weak points in a roof: a lifted sheet, a cracked tile, a loose ridge cap or a torn flashing. Once water is getting in, every downpour makes the damage inside worse. We repair storm damaged tile and metal roofs across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and the Hunter, starting with making the roof watertight, then assessing the full extent of the damage and preparing the written report and itemised quote your insurer will ask for. We work with homeowners and property managers, with or without an insurance claim.

Not sure if storm damage is what you need?
We inspect first and tell you straight: repair, restore or replace.
What to do in the first few hours
What you do straight after a storm can limit the damage inside and make an insurance claim run more smoothly. The most important rule is to stay off the roof: wet, broken or lifted roofing is dangerous to walk on, and a fall costs far more than any repair. If water is pouring in and you need emergency help to cover the roof, call the NSW SES on 132 500. For everything else, call us and your insurer as early as you can.
- Stay off the roof, and keep clear of fallen power lines
- Photograph the damage from the ground, and inside the house before anything is cleaned up
- Move furniture and valuables away from leaks and put buckets under drips
- Turn off power to rooms where water is near light fittings or power points
- Keep any broken tiles or debris the storm brought down
- Contact your insurer and ask what they need from you

Hail and metal roofs: damage you cannot always see
Hail does not have to punch a hole to damage a roof. On a metal roof it can dent sheets, crack the protective coating and loosen or shear fixings. None of that may leak on day one, but damaged coating is where rust starts, and a loosened fixing lets water in around its washer. On tile roofs, hail can crack tiles in ways that are hard to spot from the ground, and a cracked tile often only leaks when rain comes from a certain direction. If your area has had a hail storm, it is worth an inspection even if nothing is leaking yet, because many insurers set time limits for lodging a claim.
- Dents and cracked coating on metal sheets, flashings and gutters
- Loosened or damaged fixings and washers
- Hairline cracks in tiles, and broken tiles under the ridge
- Damage to skylights, vents and solar mounting points
Reports and quotes for your insurer
Insurers want to know what was damaged, how badly, and what it will take to fix it. After inspecting the roof we can provide a written report with photos that sets out the damage and its extent, together with an itemised quote for the repair. Where the roof shows it, the report also gives our view on whether damage looks like storm impact or wear that was there before, because insurers ask, and a report that separates the two is more useful to you than one that does not. We are happy to talk to your insurer or their assessor about the scope of work, but the claim itself stays between you and your insurer, and they make the decision on it.
- Photos of the damage and the roof around it
- The extent of the damage and the likely cause where the roof shows it
- An itemised repair quote your insurer can assess
- Clear separation of storm damage from existing wear where we can tell the difference
Repairs without a claim
Not every storm repair goes through insurance. The excess can be more than the repair, or the damage may be small enough that you would rather just fix it. We repair storm damage either way, with an itemised quote so you can see what you are paying for. Minor damage is still worth fixing promptly: a single lifted sheet or cracked tile lets water into the roof space every time it rains, and wet insulation and ceilings cost more to fix than the roof.
Storm damage we see across Newcastle and the Hunter
Storm damage is not always visible from the ground, and some of it takes weeks to show up as a stain on a ceiling. These are the problems we find most often after wind, hail and heavy rain, and what usually fixes them.
| Damage | How it often shows up | What usually fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| Lifted or missing metal sheets | Flapping noise in wind, a gap at the ridge or eaves | Sheets refixed with new screws, or replaced where bent |
| Cracked or dislodged tiles | Tiles on the lawn, a new leak under one section | Broken tiles replaced and matched as closely as possible |
| Loose ridge capping | Caps out of line, mortar in the gutters | Ridges rebedded or refixed and repointed |
| Wind damaged flashings | Leaks at walls, chimneys or skylights | Flashings refixed, resealed or replaced |
| Tree or branch impact | A visible dent, hole or broken section | Damaged tiles or sheets and battens replaced |
| Gutters overwhelmed or torn | Overflow into eaves, gutters pulled off the fascia | Gutters cleared, refixed or replaced |

Straight about price
What does it cost?
Storm repairs range from refixing a few sheets to replacing whole sections, so there is no single price. As a guide only, a September 2026 Newcastle market guide from whatsthedamage.com.au puts most minor leak repairs between $240 and $760 and most tile replacement repairs between $285 and $950. Those are modelled estimates, not our quotes. The price for your roof depends on how much is damaged, the roof material, pitch and access, whether a temporary cover is needed first, and whether a written report is needed for a claim. Your exact price is confirmed in writing after an on-site inspection.
Questions before you enquire
Storm Damage questions
Straight answers to what homeowners ask us most about storm damage.
How quickly can you get to storm damage?
Storm calls are prioritised. We work Monday to Saturday, 7:30am to 5:30pm, and after a big storm we look at the most urgent roofs first, where water is coming in. If you need emergency help outside those hours, call the NSW SES on 132 500.
Can you help with my insurance claim?
Yes. We provide a written report with photos and an itemised quote that sets out the damage and the repair, which is what insurers usually ask for. Your insurer decides the claim; our report describes what the roof shows.
Will you deal with my insurance company directly?
We are happy to talk with your insurer or their assessor about the scope of the repair. The claim itself stays between you and your insurer.
Should I get on the roof to check the damage myself?
No. Storm damaged roofing can be loose, broken or slippery, and falls from roofs cause serious injuries. Photos from the ground and from inside the house are genuinely useful; leave the roof to us.
Can hail damage a metal roof even if there is no hole?
Yes. Hail can dent sheets, crack the protective coating and loosen fixings without making a hole. Those problems can lead to rust and leaks later, so it is worth an inspection after a hail storm even if nothing is leaking yet.
What if the damage looks minor?
Get it checked anyway. A single lifted sheet or cracked tile lets water in every time it rains, and the damage to insulation and ceilings grows well beyond the cost of the roof repair.
Do you do repairs if I am not claiming on insurance?
Yes. We repair storm damage with or without a claim, and give you an itemised quote either way.
My street flooded in the storm. Does that mean my roof is damaged?
No. Flood water rising from the ground is a separate problem from water entering through the roof. If you have stains on ceilings or wet insulation after a storm, we can inspect the roof and tell you whether it let water in.
